Mayers Employee Development Awards (MEDS)


The accelerating pace of medical progress across all fields makes it more imperative than ever for medical professionals to stay abreast of the latest medical innovations and treatments. MHF is proud to support our most dedicated employees in their efforts to grow and improve as healthcare leaders within the Mayers community. Award funding is made possible through the generosity of community members through private contributions and through the foundation's fundraising efforts.

Mayers Employee Development Awards (MEDS)
MMHD employees seeking to enhance their skillset through job-specific training or education.
Eligibility: Career enrichment seminars and workshops will be considered but preference will be given to programs leading toward certification or a degree. Favorable consideration may also be given to applicants entering programs that train individuals to qualify to fill positions of greatest need.

The Dr. Robert M. Adams, II, Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2018 by family members to honor Dr. Adams, who passed away in October 2014. He was a practicing Internist for over 40 years; 25 of those years he practiced in the Intermountain area as well as nearby communities.
Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in a bachelor's program at an accredited school pursuing health related majors, graduating within 1-2 years while maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and desiring to work at Mayers Memorial Hospital.

Julie McCullough Memorial Scholarship
Julie McCullough worked as an EMT in the Emergency Department at Mayers Memorial Hospital for many years. In honor of Julie, who loved to run, employees and friends participate in a half marathon annually to fund this scholarship.
Eligibility: Available for current emergency services staff of MMHD furthering their education in an accredited school, continuing education, certification, or training.

Leland Kerns Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Leland Kerns was a long-time resident of the Intermountain area who, upon his passing, requested contributions be made to this scholarship fund.
Eligibility: Available for current nurses of MMHD who wish to further their education by enrolling in an accredited school, continuing education, certification, or training programs.

Ms. Johanna Desmond Memorial Scholarship
Ms. Johanna Desmond was a nurse at Mayers Memorial Hospital for many years. Upon her passing, she donated a portion of her estate to Mayers Healthcare Foundation.
Eligibility: Current nurses of MMHD who wish to further their education by enrolling in an accredited school, continuing education, certification, or training programs.

MHF Community Scholarships


The Community Scholarship Program is designed to encourage local young people to explore healthcare careers and to reinvest in the long-term health of the community. Award funding is made possible through the generosity of community members through private contributions and through the foundation's fundraising efforts.

This dynamic program, which reaches high school seniors across the school districts of Fall River and Big Valley, includes opportunities to pair our scholarships with mentoring, volunteerism and internships, exploring career opportunities closer to home. These awardees will qualify for renewal scholarships as they continue to reach their education goal. There are currently two active Scholarship Funds accepting contributions and awarding scholarships:

Mayers Healthcare Foundation Community Scholarship
Established for students majoring in studies within the medical and health care fields.
Eligibility: Students enrolled or that have been accepted for enrollment majoring in studies within the medical and healthcare fields. Graduating seniors from high schools within the Fall River Joint Unified School District or the Big Valley Joint Unified School District targeting careers in healthcare are encouraged to apply. Recipients are eligible for funding renewal following their freshman year.
